I repaired a few problems with the frameset, I think. If there are problems with alignment or background images not working right, please drop me a line and tell me what the problem is. I can test on netscape and mozilla, but my computers lack IE, since it tends to take control of things I don't care to give it, and it's a real bugger to get loose again. There is a certain sense of joy in castrating Windows, though... Anyway, be sure to take a look at the survey results, see who people found to be their favorite characters.

Terribly sorry for the lack of updates. An unholy combination of finals and wisdom teeth extraction is the main cause. It's interesting what kind of things sedatives and pain pills do to your mind, I feel like I saw everything, but that it never got written to long-term memory before being overwritten in short term. Very odd. Anyway, lots of new books, lots of votes, so knock yourselves out.

A moderately active week. Now I'm off to go look at computer desks. This one is about to drop a lot of expensive gadgets in my lap and probably wound me grievously.

Lots of votes again this week, happily, mostly in the SF category. That's a good thing, since it's been around for less time than the straight Fantasy, and so has some catching up to to, stats-wise.

Busier than usual this week, happily. I don't know why I didn't get Ender's Shadow in before now, always surprising to miss new books by authors I read myself. The person who suggested Interview with a Vampire said they didn't believe it was really horror, but I have to think, upon looking it up, that it's at least more horror than fantasy or science fiction, so it doesn't get added. If someone can give me a persuasive reason to change my impression of it (that one, or any other book I reject), feel free to send it to me, and I'll look over your arguments and make a determination. I can't read them all, after all. (much as I'd like to.)

It's been pretty quiet the last two weeks, the redirect from the old location is still working, so I wonder what it could be. There is confirmation by Tor on the title of Wheel of Time book 9, and they've updated their publishing schedule, for anyone interested.

I deeply apologize for the longest gap yet in updates. I've been working almost totally on a different computer lately, and it doesn't have the programs I need to maintain things. Hopefully that won't be a problem again. Anyway, for those who are interested and haven't heard, Robert Jordan's next book will likely be titled "Winter's Heart" (Lanfear 'smiled like winter's heart' just before she left the picture, in one of three places that phrase has been used), and Steven Brust's next Taltos book will likely be called Issola (he who strikes from courtly bow). Speculation is that book 9 of WoT will be out in the fall, and Issola perhaps in the same timeframe, perhaps a bit later. I personally would like to see Brust write some more books in the Khaavren Romances, but not many people seem to share that view... On another note, if you haven't seen Princess Mononoke and it's still playing, you should. Quite nice. And anyway, how could a movie with the line "Forest Spirit, we give you back your head" be bad?

Missed an update last week, obviously. Schoolwork catches up every once in a while (or every week, depending on what the classes are...). To make up for it, I've added a little statistics listing to my updating, just to keep track of how the archive grows over time.

Several more obscure books added this time, which is nice. Also, sometime recently, the number of books voted on reached half the total number of books on the list. Might seem like a minor accomplishment, but given that there are 4752 books in the archive as of now, that's a pretty hefty figure. And of the voted on books, over a third of them have 5 or more votes. I should probably start listing some basic stats when I update, maybe next week I'll set something up for that.

Things are picking up, pretty significantly. A lot of the votes have been on science fiction titles lately, makes me think that some largish sf website has linked me without my noticing. Whatever the reason, it's quite nice.

11.06.99:

Not much activity this week, but then, I haven't sent out any messages to people telling them to update links, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, eh?

Finally, the site is at a new address, http://members.home.com/reddragoon/reality/, so update any and all links accordingly, and if you found this page through someone else's link, drop them a line. I'm going to try to mail people who have this site linked to tell them, but I'm sure I'll miss no small number of them. Hopefully, all the stuff in the site should still work, but if something drops a link into the void of 404 Not Found, drop me a line to tell me what the problem is. Happy Halloween, btw, and Happy Reading as well.

10.23.99:

Sorry for the lack of updates again, I'm in the process of moving the page elsewhere, hopefully that will be done within the week. I love my current isp, but though they're far more stable and efficient than @home will ever be, they just don't have cablemodem speed. Anyway, expect a "We've Moved" notice sometime soon.

More than a tad late, it seems, and I apologize profusely for that. First it was FFVIII, then the flu, then school starting, then trying to get an @Home account. Hopefully I won't let things lapse for that long again for quite some time. Speaking of trying to get a cablemodem connection, this site will likely be moving in the not-too-distant-future, assuming TCI/AT&T/whoever-they-merge-with-next can get a little more, um, organized. Anyway, considering how long it's been since there was an update, there's precious little to update, but hopefully that will change soon. Happy reading, all.

09.05.99:

  • General scores update
  • New books added
    • The Runelords
      • David Farland
I don't know why that book hadn't been added before, I've seen it at the bookstores so many times. I guess I assumed it was there already. The update next week will possibly be a tad late, since it may be difficult to tear me away from Final Fantasy VIII once it is released in a few days. Oh, and thanks to Johan for pointing out a linking error on the index page, which I doubt I would have ever found on my own. Reminds me of that sign: "Be alert, the world needs more lerts".

08.28.99:

  • General scores update
Another quiet week. I guess people are more interested in such silly little things as school and the reentering of, than in the joys of reading. Happily, I've got a few precious weeks left until the gaping maw of perdition swallows me up again. Not that I've been reading too much lately, either, though: vowing to become marginally apt with linux by the end of the summer is coming back to haunt me, and, well, I'd at least like to learn what size partitions everything should be on, if nothing else at all. Ah, the woes of newbiedom. Anyway, happy reading (textbook or otherwise), all.

Things picked up again this week, happily. More unhappily, though, is the fact that people still aren't figuring out that there are multiple pages for each alpha, even in the new layout. I'm at a loss for a solution, short of sticking in H1 level blinking text saying so at the head of every page, and that would kind of be, well, tacky.

08.13.99:

  • General scores update
  • New books added
    • The Quartered Sea
      • Tanya Huff
Hmmm, it's been a very quiet week, yet the counter continues to advance steadily. I guess people are in a "look, but don't touch" mentality.

08.07.99:

  • General scores update
  • New books added
    • Faded Steel Heat

Well, busy first few days. Lots of people are visiting, happily, though I'm not quite sure what the cause is. I'm certainly not complaining. The last book update didn't actually update, so consider it cumulative as of now. I still haven't figured out an adequate way to deal with multi-authored books, but I'm working on it. Anyway, happy reading, all!

07.29.99:

The rejected Frankowski books were on the fantasy archive to start with, now that everything's in one place, should be less difficulty finding things, eh?

07.29.99:

  • Beyond Reality comes Online!
E Pluribus Unum: Out of Many, One. Well, two's not quite many, but the point still stands. The Fantasy Book Voting Archive and the Science Fiction Voting Database have been combined, forming a collection of over 4500 books, all in one place. Not having two pages to deal with this volume simplifies things a great deal, both for me, and hopefully for everyone using it. Also, The new layout should do a bit for solving some previous problems, and it looks nice, to boot. So, without further ado, I give you: Beyond Reality.
