Well, it's been a busy quarter for me this time. I signed up expecting two pure programming classes, turned out all four of them were. Whee. Anyway, it's Finals week, so free time is just around the corner. Some of that free time may be taken up with another site relocation, but this time there will theoretically be advance warning and redirect links and all those niceties that the @Home implosion made impossible last time.

Pretty standard update. Still significantly lower volume than before the transfer to attbi, but it's gradually increasing. I'm basically updating whenever I get a reasonable number of votes, so forgive the somewhat erratic pattern.

Finally, the new address is showing up in google and such. Maybe things will pick up at last... Also, I finally got the vote confirmation page to behave.

Well, activity is still (obviously) pretty minimal. Things are picking up just a hair, enough to give me hope for an eventual recovery. Of course, since AT&T Broadband is off to a new owner in Comcast in the semi-near future, I may have the (dis)pleasure of doing all this over again. Whee.

Well, depressingly enough, I haven't gotten a single vote since @Home booted AT&T's rear off the failing network without enough warning for me to get redirectors up. As of today I've notified all the sites I could find that linked to the old location, of the new URL, but if anyone who reads this (assuming anyone IS reading this...) knows of or is involved in any other place with the old address still linked to (like those mailing lists on yahoo I couldn't contact since I'm not a member), please update it to the new one, so things can get up and running again. Happy New Year, everyone!

12.02.01:

  • New address: http://home.attbi.com/~reddragoon/reality/
Well, if AT&T and the bondholders of Excite@Home were playing a game of chicken, they ended up slamming into each other at 80mph. So, with only days of forewarning, here I am with a new address, and no way to inform anyone at all where I am. Thanks so much, broadband industry. I can't wait for Excite's bondholders to have to write off their investment. Anyway, if you manage to deduce/locate this new address, tell whoever might be interested where it is now. Also tell me if the site behaves strangely due to the move.

Sorry for the prolonged lack of activity, school's been taking more out of me than I had anticipated, yet again. I ran into a few problems with the server the cgi scripts sit on that resulted in nearly four days of downtime. My sysadmining skills are apparently not "all that". But it's humming away happily now, with a new network card (yay 3com, die Linksys) and a new kernel. Sure it's got a semi-corrupt rpm database, but who's counting?

Hrm, Physics is not really my 'thing'. Huge chunks of clutter around otherwise beautiful math. Anyway, more books and more scores (minus some from someone who was trying to warp the scores by submitting 10's over and over on the same books, that's why there's a human layer to the backend).

Smallish update this time. Also (probably) the last one before I start up school again next week (pause while I shudder violently, the learning is great, the time of day is loathsome). I don't expect the update "schedule", such as it is, to be significantly impacted, but just though I'd drop the warning in case one of my profs turns out to be a closet sadist.

Well, this was going to go up on tuesday morning, but other things happened. I lack the wordcraft to say anything about it that hasn't already been said, so I won't even try. I could go on for pages about my thoughts and feelings and such, but they more or less boil down to never again. Whatever is the reaction/result, it must be geared toward that outcome. Anyway, I'm sure a bit of escapism is called for in many cases, so my advice is to settle in with an old favorite book (or two or three or...) and take the edge of your tension off. Not all of it, of course, because we should all be a little tense at this point, ready for what must be done next to ensure a better (Asimovian rather than Clarkish) future.
